I know a lot of folks don’t care about Tom Cruise because . . . well, you know, the craziness thing, but I really liked number three guided by J.J. Abrams (Alias, Lost, Star Trek [2009]). And it looks like J.J. is back for # 4, yes, with Cruise. Abrams says: “We have a really cool idea that we’re playing with and I’m looking forward to that coming to pass . . . [T]here definitely will be a European presence but there’s a whole crazy story, it’s definitely a jet setting movie.” Sweet!
. . . Free Willy: Escape From Pirate’s Cove! Within a month of the incident where a female Sea World trainer was drowned by a Killer Whale, a new Free Willy movie comes out: (more…)
The Asylum took a break from doing low-budget knock-offs of big-budget blockbusters last summer and gave the world cult favorite Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. Allegedly the original b-movie king, Roger Corman, is turning the tables on the Asylum and taking a page out of their book. On that note, I say: Behold Sharktapus!

You might think I’m referring to the fact that the writer/director/actor Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, etc.) was recently kicked off an airplane for being too overweight. But I’m not. I’m referring to the fact that onetime indy film auteur’s latest film is the ultimate in bland, generic, buddy cop comedy Cop Out starring Bruce Willis and Tracey Morgan. Poor, poor Kevin Smith: (more…)
The best movie I saw at the vaunted Charlotte Film Festival back in September (2009) was for a little Irish, ghost story called The Eclipse. I’m not a big fan of scary movies, but this was my kind of scary (Sixth Sense rather than Saw VI). Maybe the Eclipse caught me at the right time and in the right environment — a theater full of people who had seen nothing but *cough* lousy indies all week — but I loved this movie. Read my review here. Finally the trailer has been released, and here it is:
First one, Director Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe. Looks like Gladiator in Sherwood Forest. My interest: Pretty tepid.
I know, I know… this comes as a huge surprise to you. Sly is not only still alive, someone is allowing him to make movies. Yes, it was a shock to me as well, but then again Lindsay Lohan still gets work, so it’s only fair.
Anyway, I cam across this article the other day and while I know I shouldn’t hope the injuries are life threatening, career ending might be a good place to start. (more…)
I’m very excited to see reported on Ain’t It Cool News word that a sequel to My Name Is Bruce is in the works. My Name is Bruce, for those who don’t remember my electric blog from last year, is the B-movie for B-movie lovers by the King of B-Movies, Bruce Campbell. My Name Is Bruce is a ** movie that is **** worth of fun for me. The sequel’s title? Bruce vs. Frankenstein. Can’t wait!
Coming in April from our friends at the Asylum is a little film called MegaPiranha. This is not the sequel to the Asylum’s cult hit, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, but rather their version of the big budget Piranha 3-D movie that is coming in April as well. But I think it’s safe to say that MegaPiranha is the cinematic cousin of Mega Shark. And it’s not just because of giant sea creatures terrorizing humans. Where Mega Shark starred 80’s teen sensation Debbie Gibson, MegaPiranha stars . . . 80s sensation Tiffany. (more…)
