New Season of Destination Truth Starts Wednesday Night!

My favorite guilty pleasure, the monster/myth hunting show Destination Truth, starts a new season Wednesday night at 10 pm (Eastern) on the SyFy Channel.  I wrote about the show originally here.  While I love “in search of” style shows about bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, etc., the reason why I’m addicted to this show is the hilarious host Josh Gates.  Check out some of the best of moments here: (more…)

Late Night Street Fight: Asian Conan vs. Asian Leno

Thanks to my brother who sent this to me in an e-mail with the apropos subject line “bahahahahah‏.”  It is clips from the pro-Conan O’Brian rally in Los Angeles, featuring a battle between Asian Conan vs. Asian Leno.  Other than “bahahahahah‏,” I would like to add: Wow.  The clip is here:

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Vol. 16

This week the latest volume of my favorite TV show came out on DVD, MST3K Vol. 16, featuring one of my favorite episodes, Santa Claus.  Santa Claus is a Mexican film featuring Satan – yes, the devil – attempting to thwart Santa’s delivering presents; the film is totally bizarre and thoroughly hilarious with great riffing, check out some samples by clicking “More” and, if you want to check out the DVD yourself, here’s a link: (more…)

The Prisoner (2009) First Two Episodes

Filed under:TV Shows — posted by Daniel Roos on November 15, 2009 @ 8:29 pm

Just caught the first two episodes of the Prisoner, and it is truly awesome.  It’s a worthy update of the 60s classic, with plenty of homages (the 6 buying a map scene, the attire, the phrase “Be seeing you,” the giant ball of death a.k.a. “Rover”, etc.) and plenty of twists on the theme. (more…)

New Prisoner Mini-Series Starts Tonight!

Filed under:TV Shows — posted by Daniel Roos on @ 11:49 am

The 60s British TV show The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan is perhaps the greatest TV series of all-time and one of the few TV shows I have written about on Film Is Pwn, which I did last September.  Starting tonight (Sunday), AMC is premiering a new mini-series remaking the Prisoner starring Sir Ian McKellan as Number 2 and Jim Caviezel as Number 6.  I for one will be watching with great anticipation, and hope you will be too.  Be seeing you!

Mythbusters – Curving Bullets

For several years now, I’ve been a casual fan of the Discovery Channels’ show Mythbusters.  By ”casual fan” I mean that I watch it periodically, generally enjoy it, but never go out of my way to see and don’t feel particularly sad if I should miss it.  The show, for those unaware, puts myths, tall tales, and urban legends to the test by attempting to recreate implausable stories like a child being lifted off the grounds by balloons or a submerged vessel being raised by ping pong balls.

“All Right, Dude, We’re From the Future”

Next week is not about movies (with *shudder* Angels & Demons being the only noteworthy release), it’s about the season finale of Lost, perhaps the best TV show ever.  Sure, the plot is thicker than War & Peace, and you’d have zero luck picking up the story without watching every episode (heck, those of use who’ve seen every show at least once barely have a clue), but doggone it, I love it. 24 (2009) Season 7 Episodes 3 & 4

Episodes 3 & 4: 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Random thoughts from the second night of the 24 premiere:

  •  Pre-show random anecdote, I had a lot of fun at work with a friend who is a fellow 24 aficionado but had recorded and not seen Sunday’s show (I figured this out when she called in the morning to say, “I haven’t seen 24!  Don’t talk about it!”).  So the rest of the day I peppered her with false spoilers just to amuse and annoy her, my favorite among them: “I can’t believe they turned Jack into a transvestite!” “Did Chloe always have superpowers?  I don’t remember her flying before.” “I couldn’t get used to the laugh track on the show last night, but I guess I’ll get used to it.”

A little something different than the usual whimsical or analytical entry on the movie of the day: Random thoughts on one of my favorite TV shows, 24, written during the commercial breaks of the two hour premiere that just concluded.

Destination Truth (2008)

Filed under:Editorials, TV Shows — posted by Daniel Roos on October 14, 2008 @ 4:33 pm

This is a digression from film to talk about a TV show.  That show airs on the Sci-Fi Channel and I am addicted to it for reasons I’ll attempt to articulate here.  That show is . . . Destination Truth.

The Prisoner (1967-1968)

All right, the Prisoner is not a “film,” but it is one heck of a TV show that can be called monumental, instrumental, and a little mental as well.
